Acxiom says 2.25 bln usd merger terminated; 65 mln usd fee payable

LONDON, Oct. 1, 2007 (Thomson Financial delivered by Newstex) -- Data-management company Acxiom Corporation (NASDAQ:ACXM) has confirmed earlier reports that it has reached an agreement with private equity companies Silver Lake Partners and ValueAct Capital to terminate their previously announced 2.25 bln usd acquisition of Acxiom.Acxiom said the two buyers have signed a settlement agreement where Acxiom will receive 65 mln usd in cash to terminate the merger agreement: originally the fee was to be 110 mln usd.Charles Morgan, Acxiom's chairman, said, 'While I am disappointed that we could not conclude the merger, we have renewed energy and remain focused and committed to delivering value for our shareholders and clients.'The scrapping of the deal comes as a number of deals signed during the private-equity boom earlier this year are now being viewed with less optimism.For Acxiom, the Wall Street Journal said the problems have came with the company's most recent earnings report, for the first quarter, when the company reported a net loss of 11.5 mln usd.Results for the coming quarter are expected to be even worse, said one person familiar with the negotiations, which helped steer the new owners away.tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomson.comCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
